Why I use dumb phone

I have been using motorola razr since last 3.5 yrs and I am pretty much happy about it. I am still not buying smartphone because I think

  • Smartphones steal the moments I get currently to think about something. They steal the time I spend on reflecting after an occurrence of events/idea. If I have smartphone I would open my email/facebook to see what is happening. Once it becomes habit, it sucks.
  • Its a piece of distraction. I have noticed that once people don't follow something in the meeting, they will take out their smartphone and check other people's status on facebook. Instead one could try harder to understand the thing they are not comprehending. Thus smartphone prevents us from trying harder.
  • They are expensive.
  • They steal the time I currently spend reading books/articles on kindle.
Note:- This does not mean I am not excited about technology or I am slow to adapt new things.

Google Chrome 10 has its own task manager

Yesterday I updated Google Chrome browser to version 10. It opens "Options" as new tab. However what I liked most about this version is "View background pages (2)". [what is 2???] Its like task manager of Google Chrome itself. You can observe the memory each tab and plugin is taking along with their process id. This will be really helpful as you know which process to kill if your webpage is stuck somewhere or consuming lot of memory or some plugin is misbehaving!!!

Inspiring Thought

Before few months, I started seeing a new TV series called "Human Target". At the end of the episode there is one inspiring dialogue

"You're not as stuck as you think you are. There is another way."

I believe in it.

Bug in Gmail

I use gmail a lot. Its fastest and simple though I have not noticed it takes some more time to load recently. I found a bug and would like to share. The following are the steps:-

1. Send an email to friend.
2. Your friend replies to same email(with some content)[Call him to do it for you :-) ]
3. Your friend again replies to same email(different content)
4. Delete only last email(not the entire list of emails) you received from your friend.
5. Check the content that is displayed next to subject in inbox. This content is from deleted email. I think that it should not be from deleted email(since deleted content should not never be shown).

You would not notice it if you refresh page.

Of course I have reported it to gmail team.
Happy Bug Finding!!!

SVN

Tonight I setup subverison local repository for Euler project. I have been using svn a lot at work. This inspired me to setup my own repository.

I followed the link http://blog.jayway.com/2009/04/03/setting-up-a-local-subversion-repository-to-use-with-your-eclipse/

Its really simple and programmer should give it a shot.
